Based on the ZEW Financial Market Test, approximately 400 experts from banks, insurance companies and financial departments of selected corporations have been interviewed about their assessments and forecasts for important international financial market data every month since 1991. The results are published in the Financial Market Report. In addition, the survey findings are published in regular intervals via the press in the form of indicators and forecasts. The G-Mind (German Market Indicator) and the ECB-Watch, an indicator for the interest rate policy of the European Central Bank, are disseminated via the news agency vwd (Vereinigte Wirtschaftsdienste GmbH). The Financial Market Report CEE presents the results of a survey by ZEW and Erste Group Bank AG Vienna, among financial market experts and is published monthly since June 2007. It offers insights into the assessment of the current economic situation, and their expectations for Central and Eastern Europe, Austria and the Eurozone for the next six months concerning the general economic situation, inflation rates, interest rates, exchange rates and stock market indices. The indicators reflect the difference between the percentage of analysts who are optimistic and the percentage of analysts who are pessimistic. The possible outcome of the balance lies between -100 and +100 points. Positive values of the balance indicate that the number of participants expecting a rise in the respective variable outweigh the number of participants with negative expectations.

ZEW Report on the Business Survey in the German ICT-Intensive Services Sector

The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) together with the credit reference agency Creditreform conducts a quarterly business survey in the ICT-intensive services sector. The ICT-intensive services sector is defined as consisting of the Information- and Communication Technology (ICT) service providers (enterprises of the branches computer services and -leasing, ICT-specialized trade as well as telecommunication services) and knowledge intensive service providers (enterprises of the branches tax consultancy and accounting, management consultancy, architecture, technical consultancy and planning, research and development as well as advertising). On a quarterly basis, the addressed firms are requested to provide information on changes in turnover, return, demand, personnel and prices as compared to the preceding quarter. In addition, the expectations for the coming quarter are surveyed. About 1.200 firms participate in each quarter. The survey results are published in the "ZEW Branchenreport Dienstleister der Informationsgesellschaft" (ZEW Report on the ICT-intensive services sector). This report is mailed to all participating firms and made available on the Internet sites of the ZEW. Press releases convey the survey results to the press.

ZEW Innovationserhebung and Branchenreport Innovation

Since 1993, the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) conducts, on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (bmb+f), systematic surveys on the innovation behaviour of manufacturing industry ("Prospects of the German Economy") and the service industry ("Services of the Future"). The study is carried out in collaboration with infas (Institute for Applied Social Sciences).

Approximately 2,500 enterprises participate in the survey in manufacturing industry and in the service industry, respectively. It is a representative survey for Germany and its results are stratifiedly projected to the stratified population in Germany. The enterprises are asked, inter alia, about their innovation goals and innovation strategies, development and structure of their innovation activities and their innovation success, about factors hampering innovation, innovation sources, and collaboration structures.

CT-Report contains the results of the ICT-Survey conducted by the ZEW. It is a representative survey among companies concerning the use and distribution of information and communication technologies.
The enquiry includes the manufacturing industries and selected service sectors in Germany.

KfW/ ZEW CO2 Panel

As part of a cooperative project with KfW Bankengruppe, the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) is conducting a market survey among participants and experts of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. The goal of the project is the analysis of the EU market for emission allowances and its development. The results are reported in an annual publication and a biannual report.

German Real Estate Finance Index (DIFI-Report)

The German Real Estate Finance Index (Deutscher Immobilien-Finanzierungsindex(DIFI)-Report) (in German only) is based on a quarterly survey conducted by the ZEW. In the first part of the survey, experts in the market for real estate finance are asked about their forecast and expectations about the financing conditions in the office, retail, logistics and residential real estate market and about the re-financing conditions. The Index is calculated based on the experts expectations about the market sectors. A second part of the survey asks for current topics in the real estate market.

As part of the ZEW Energy Market Barometer the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Mannheim, semi-annually surveys more than 200 Experts from energy supply, trade, and services firms regarding their expectations of short and mid-term developments on the national and international energy markets.

The ProgTrans/ZEW Transport Market Barometer

The ProgTrans/ZEW Transport Market Barometer: Since 1998, Progtrans, Basle, and the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Mannheim, conduct a quarterly survey among 300 executive decision makers from the transport and haulage industry regarding the developments on the transport market. The experts are asked for their assessment six months in advance concerning whether transport volumes and prices in Germany as well as for east and westbound European international transport are to (strongly/slightly) increase, (strongly/slightly) decrease, or remain unchanged. The examined transport markets are road haulage, railway goods traffic, inland navigation, air freight, combined transport, and courier, express, and parcel services. Moreover, the experts provide an assessment of the developments of air and sea freight from Germany to other European states as well as to the North American and Asia/Pacific regions.
