Financial Education in Germany: Status Quo and Perspectives

Financial Education in Germany: Status Quo and Perspectives

Due to several societal and economic trends, the importance of financial education is increasing as financial decisions become more complex and riskier. At the same time, financial education in Germany is still in its infancy, which means that reliable information is needed on the status quo, possible development prospects and research gaps. The aim of the project “FinBilD” is to collect and provide this information and thus, create a basis for orientation on the status quo and prospects of financial education in Germany. To achieve this, an inventory and a critical appraisal will be carried out regarding the current players as well as existing financial education offerings and empirical studies. Thereon, best practices from other countries or other education sectors will be identified. Thus, the project will document the status quo, structure it and make it accessible for a first formative evaluation in order to provide impulses for further research in the field of financial education.
