Network in Europa

The research area "Economics of Skill Formation" makes an original contribution in connecting universities and research institutes in Germany and Europe. The international Leibniz Network "Non-Cognitive Skills: Acquisition and Economic Consequences” is supported by the “Pakt für Forschung und Innovation” of the Federal Government. Economists cooperate with neuropsychologists, survey researchers and social psychologists, in order to empirically estimate a "childhood skill multiplier" for human capital formation. This multiplier measures the importance of skills acquired during childhood for the accumulation of human capital over the life cycle. A further important focus lies on the hitherto still not well researched non-cognitive skills, including perseverance, motivation, volition, self-discipline and time preference.

To improve capacities for research on skill formation our researchers actively participate in improving the database. For this purpose we cooperate with:
