ZEW/KMRC Wikipedia Workshop (November 8-9, 2013, Mannheim)

The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim and the Knowledge Media Research Centre (KMRC) in Tübingen jointly host a workshop on Wikipedia and the network analysis of large social or content networks in Mannheim on November 8 and 9, 2013. The impact of Wikipedia and other productive online communities (Web 2.0) on the process of knowledge creation as well as on the development and dissemination of ICT in society is growing enormously. Consequently, a growing number of interdisciplinary researchers focus on the process of content generation in online communities, in particular on content structure, development trends, and user interaction patterns. Against this background, we organise a work shop to foster interdisciplinary analysis of online communities. We have invited international researchers working in the field of Wikipedia. The scholars, who come from various disciplines (economics, psychology, sociology, and computer science), will present research ideas and methodological approaches. Furthermore, a representative from the German Wikimedia foundation will share his expertise on Wikipedia’s internal processes and new tools available for research on Wikipedia. We invite interested participants (non-presenters) to register online no later than October 25, 2013. Please note that only a limited number of non-presenters will be able to attend. The conference fee is EUR 150, covering conference materials, coffee breaks, and lunch on both days.
