Stephan Reichert studied economics at the University of Trier from 1999 to 2006. He focused on Public Finance and Monetary Policy. In his diploma thesis he examined the role of the rating of public issuers as instrument for a sustainable debt policy of the german federal states. His diploma thesis was awarded with the economy prize of the Trier Chamber of Crafts in 2006.

Subsequently he worked as assistant to the vice-president of the University of Saarland. His main focus at the presidential office was on planning and strategy. From April 2009 to September 2012, Stephan Reichert was assistant to ZEW's board of directors. Since September 2012 to July 2017, he was Head of the Strategic Planning Unit and Deputy Head of the Department of General Services. Currently, he is Head of the Department of General Services.
