ZEW-CS Financial Market Test Switzerland - Economic Sentiment Weakens

CH Indicator of Economic Sentiment

Economic expectations for Switzerland have reached a reading of 28.7 points in February 2014. Therefore, the ZEW-CS-Indicator decreases by 7.7 points compared to the previous month. The weaker economic outlook is likely to be caused by the approval of the national referendum to stop mass immigration, which could impact on employment, investments and the general attractiveness of Switzerland as a business location.

The ZEW-CS Indicator reflects the expectations of the surveyed financial market experts regarding the economic development in Switzerland on a six-month time horizon. It is calculated monthly by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in cooperation with Credit Suisse (CS).

Switzerland’s current economic situation is evaluated nearly unchanged compared to last month’s survey. The respective indicator experiences a slight correction (down 2.4 points) reaching a level of 47.6 points.

The current economic situation in the Eurozone is assessed significantly less gloomy compared to January. The respective indicator improves by 10.0 points and now amounts to minus 34.2 points.
