ZEW-CS Financial Market Test Switzerland - Economic Expectations Reach Balanced Level

In July 2014 economic expectations for Switzerland have declined slightly by 4.7 points. The ZEW-CS Indicator now stands at a nearly balanced level of 0.1 points.

This neutral reading of the indicator signals that the current favourable economic conditions in Switzerland are likely to remain until year end, according to the assessments of the surveyed experts. The ZEW-CS Indicator reflects the expectations of the surveyed financial market experts regarding the economic development in Switzerland on a six-month time horizon. It is calculated monthly by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in cooperation with Credit Suisse (CS).

Since April 2014 economic expectations have been shaped by a majority of analysts, who expect the economic situation to remain unchanged on a six-month view. In July 70.7 per cent of economic experts share this view. Among the remaining experts optimists and pessimists hold equal shares. Each view is taken by about 15 per cent of the surveyed analysts.

The assessment of the current economic situation in Switzerland is on slight decrease. In July the respective indicator declines by 5.9 points reaching the reading of 51.2 points.
