Kick-off for ZEW Research Data Centre

Research

As of now, the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) is providing research data for external scientific use in the new ZEW Research Data Centre (ZEW-FDZ). Scientists from universities and other research institutes can draw on a high-quality data pool which has been built and maintained over years by ZEW.

In November 2012, the German Data Forum (RatSWD) acknowledged that ZEW offers high-quality access to its research data pools for external scientists and accredited the new ZEW Research Data Centre (ZEW-FDZ). As of now, external scientists can thus draw on various micro data for scientific use. The data come from ZEW surveys such as the Mannheim Innovation Panel (MIP) or the ZEW Business Survey in the Information Economy. By establishing the Research Data Centre, ZEW meets the recommendations of the “Commission on the Improvement of the Informational Infrastructure between Research and Statistics”.

External researchers can make a request to use ZEW Research Data for scientific projects. For this purpose, ZEW established an FDZ room reserved for users of the new Research Data Centre. Furthermore, the ZEW Research Data Centre provides some de-identified research data to external scientists as scientific use files. These can also be used outside ZEW.
