Measurement Errors in Administrative Data

Workshop

The Centre for European Economic Reserach (ZEW) and the Data Research Centre of the Institute for Employment Research (IAB-FDZ) organize a workshop on Measurement Errors in Administrative Data sponsored by the SNF-DFG Research Group FOR916 "Statistical Regularization and Qualitative Constraints" and the Insitute for Employment Research (IAB).

Research on data quality in survey data has a long history and administrative datasets are often proposed for validation without questioning their data quality. Recent research has shown that even administrative data suffers from missings, misspecifications, and censored measurements to a non-ignorable extend. Data problems in these data often have a different nature than errors in survey data: For example, information which is gathered as a by-product to an administrative process is less accurate than the information which is necessary for that process. Moreover, the large number of observations and the high quality of certain variables allow new data correction methods which are not applicable to survey data. The workshop aims at bringing together leading researchers with representatives of statistical offices to discuss recent developments on how to address the problem of measurement error and missing data.
