The ZEW media design team once again received two awards at the twelfth International Creative Media Award (ICMA). The designers won bronze in the main category “Annual Report” and the Award of Excellence in the sub-category “Infographics” for the ZEW Annual Report 2020. In the year of the pandemic 2020, the ZEW Annual Report, which has a thematic focus on COVID-19, convinced the jury among 406 submissions from 21 countries.

Christina Meyer, a researcher in the ZEW Research Department “International Finance and Financial Management”, received the Gerhard Fürst Award of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on 18 November 2021. The award aims to promote young researchers. She was honoured in the category master’s/bachelor’s theses for her master’s thesis on gender-specific differences in old-age provision after the introduction of so-called unisex tariffs in the Riester pension scheme.

Dean’s Teaching Award for Distinguished Lecturers Goes to Professor Bettina Peters

Professor Bettina Peters, deputy head of the ZEW Research Department “Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics”, was awarded the Dean’s Teaching Award for Distinguished Lecturers at Pforzheim University on 23 June 2021. The professor of innovation from the University of Luxembourg received the award, which is presented annually, for her teaching commitment at Pforzheim University’s Faculty of Business and Law.
The ZEW Annual Report 2018, which is dedicated to the topic of “Digitalisation”, was honoured in the category “Best of Decade” (2010 to 2020) at the International Creative Media Awards. Along with 28 other reports, it is one of the best works from the first decade of the ICMA Awards in the Annual Reports (online and print) category and is the only report from a research institute to appear in this list.

The German weekly business magazine WirtschaftsWoche ranks two researchers from ZEW Mannheim in their list of outstanding economists under the age of 40. According to WirtschaftsWoche, Professor Vitali Gretschko and Dr. Simon Reif are among those who are actively shaping the future by working on groundbreaking topics and providing valuable impulses for Germany.
The work of the ZEW Media Design Team was again honoured at the eleventh International Creative Media Awards (ICMA): The designers won bronze for the ZEW Annual Report 2019 in the category “Typography, Layout”. This year saw 387 international submissions.
Dr. Laura Pohlan, a researcher in the ZEW Research Group “Market Design”, received the 2020 “Forschungspreis Soziale Markwirtschaft” (“Social Market Economy Research Award”) by the Roman Herzog Institute (RHI) Munich on 7 October 2020. She was awarded the third prize for her dissertation on the social consequences of unemployment and the effects of direct and indirect state measures on employment. She wrote her dissertation while still working in the ZEW Research Department “Labour Markets and Human Resources”. The award ceremony was held online.

For the second time, the ZEW Sponsors’ Association for Science and Practice has awarded two science prizes, honouring outstanding scientific performances and economic policy advising projects at ZEW Mannheim. The prizes each come with a €5,000 endowment and were handed over by Dr. Georg Müller, chairman of the ZEW Sponsors’ Association and CEO at MVV Energie.
