In the context of this EU Twinning Project, ZEW experts support the Latvian Competition Council in the extension of the use of theoretical and empirical methods of competition policy analysis. In particular, ZEW experts derive recommendations for the creation and maintenance of a measurable indicators’ system for the long-term evaluation of competition policy effects. Furthermore, guidelines for the improvement of theoretical and practical techniques and methods for the selection and analysis of economic sectors and relevant markets are developed. Additionally, ZEW experts derive recommendations for institutional and informational/IT support for internal procedures of circulation and treatment of analytical information in the Competition Council. In order to cover both, theoretical and practical aspects of competition policy analysis, ZEW experts interact closely with experts from the German Federal Cartel Office.
