ObjectivesCharacteristics, determinants, barriers and impacts of sustainable medium and long-term decisions on energy consumption in residential buildings were examined in an empirically supported, inter- and transdisciplinary analysis. The project lead to recommendations for sustainable energy companies, for instance in the field of marketing. The results of the project were published in relevant international and referred journals. Moreover the results were presented at national and international scientific congresses. The research project was intended to support dissertations on this topic.Workplan: Based on quantitative and qualitative preparations, the project uses a "stated preference" survey in order to analyse discrete choices in households. Subsequently, sustainability strategies were deduced and examined for their ecological, economic and social impacts. Application: The sustainability strategies developed in the project were addressed to companies and decision makers in environmental and energy policy. The strategies have been developed to support these actors in further increasing the share of sustainable forms of energy supply.  www.zew.de/seco
