Ratios of Infrastructural Costs Between Rail and Open RoadTransit

Ratios of Infrastructural Costs Between Rail and Open RoadTransit

Client/Allowance

Deutsche Bahn AG

Period: 01.08. – 30.11.1999

The project is concerned with deriving ratios of infrastructural costs between rail and open road(particularly 40-ton trucks) transit for two German regions, Basel and Berlin, using 1998 as base year. The calculations are based on the general methodology developed by the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) and last applied in 1994, when under commission of the German Railway (DB) such ratios were determined on a national scale for all traffic carriers (DIW 1997). The results from our study are to date not publicly available.
