The aim of this study is to update a report on key innovation indicators for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. In a concise way, the study offers an overview on the state and recent developments in research and innovation in the German chemical and pharmaceutical industry as well as in science and technology related to chemistry and pharmaceuticals. Indicators cover R&D and innovation activities of firms, research and education in the public sector as well as economic results of innovation efforts (including exports of high-technology goods).As a special topic, the 2022 edition of the report analyses start-ups in the chemical industry, i.e. young firms that transfer chemical knowledge and technologies into innovative products and services.
