Market design for food donations

The aim of the project is a simple and efficient distribution of food donations. This is made possible by the development of an online platform as an interface between food banks and companies from the industry and retail sectors. The project is carried out in cooperation with Tafel Deutschland e.V., Tafel Akademie and partners. Improved coordination of food donations implemented via the platform and optimised route planning have the following potentials: (1) coordination ensures a more efficient distribution of donations through better matching food supply and demand. (2) Improved route planning saves time and costs by reducing transport routes and empty runs. (3) Coordination as well as route planning also contribute to an increase in the usable donations by increasing the planning certainty of large donations and increasing transport capacities.
