Innovation Activities of Firms in East Germany

Innovation Activities of Firms in East Germany

The project analysed the innovation behaviour of firms in East Germany since the German reunification. Based on data from the Mannheim Innovation Panel (MIP), the project focused on four research questions:

  • Development of innovation indicators over time (input and output indicators, share of innovative firms, characteristics of the innovation process).
  • Innovation performance of East German firms when considering differences in sector, size and the regional environment.
  • The role of public funding for the firm's innovation and economic performance.
  • The role of location factors for innovation activities in East German firms.
