Relevance of Producer-oriented Services in Baden-Wuerttemberg, with a Focus on Digitisation

Producer-oriented Services play an important role for the economy of Baden-Wuerttemberg, which is characterised by a large share of manufacturing in total regional GDP. At the same time, manufacturing is strongly R&D and innovation based, showing one of the highest R&D intensities worldwide. Specialised producer-oriented services are an important innovation partner for manufacturing firms. The process of digitisation challenges the established networks between service providers and manufacturing firms and require service providers to rethink their business models. Against this background, the study investigates the following issues:

  1. Definition of producer-oriented services, product-supporting services, hybrid value added, and digitisation in services
  2. Significance of producer-oriented services in Baden-Wuerttemberg
  3. Role of producer-oriented services for manufacturing innovation in Baden-Wuerttemberg
  4. Interaction between product-supporting services and industrial innovation in Baden-Wuerttemberg
  5. Relevance of digitisation in the relation between producer-oriented services and manufacturing Baden-Wuerttemberg and potentials for using digitisation applications.
  6. Potential developments for producer-oriented services and product-supporting services in Baden-Wuerttemberg and policy options for strengthening these services.
