In this project, a research consortium evaluated the Federal programme “Social Inclusion into the Labour Market”. The objective of this programme was the promotion of social inclusion for long-term unemployed and the improvement of their employability. The programme focused on unemployed individuals with health restrictions and/or with children of minor age in the household. It was initiated by the federal ministry of labour and social affairs (BMAS) as a pilot programme and ended 2018. 21,000 unemployed in nearly half of all job centers participated in the programme. The evaluation faces methodological challenges with respect to the design of the outcome variable “social inclusion” and the selection processes on the individual and job center level. The consortium produced five research reports, among them a study on the longer term programme impacts. The analysis focused on the average treatment of the treated, on the employment status after the end of the programme and on impact heterogeneities. The final report from 2020 contains a summary of the relevant findings ans well as policy and research conclusions.
