The model "Emittents´ Structures" by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research, Karlsruhe, developed with respect to the connections between economic activity and environmental impacts and able to capture even the indirect effects, was subjected to an extended integration procedure, resulting in a convenient instrument for the evaluation of the environmental footprint associated with 12 different pollutants, 60 types of solid waste, and 4 kinds of sewage potentially arising from economic activity. Through modelling of technical detail in the calculation of sectorally weighted emissions coefficients the impact of both the effects of structural change and growth as well as the effect of employing different technologies can be analysed. As part of the project specific extensions were applied to contain adaptations to the regional, state-level characteristics of Baden-Württemberg as well to the broader European scope. In creating the new model implementation an instrument resulted which is capable not only of permitting the analysis of regional growth and structural effects (including their impact on on the various types of emissions), but of capturing with respect to environmental outcomes alternative pathways of economic activity as well.
