Wettbewerb in der digitalen Ökonomie

There is hardly a topic in economic policy that has occupied so many commissions, committees and ad-hoc bodies worldwide as the question of the “right” competition policy in the digital world. The economic sciences have also taken up the cause: An entire branch of research in industrial economics is now devoted in large part to the study of digital platforms. In this paper, I discuss the economic foundations of the digital economy that have demanded a rethinking of competition policy. In a second step, I discuss selected aspects of the legislative reforms in Germany and Europe, taking into account the economic foundations. The paper ends with an outlook on the 11th amendment of the Act Against Restraints of Competition in Germany.
