Eonomics of the Transformation of the Energy System

Germany has set ambitious climate targets until the mid of this century. The sector coupling of electricity, heat and transport is repeatedly discussed as an important measure. It is expected that emissions can be thereby reduced, in particular through the electrification of heat supply and transport against the background of the expansion of renewable energies in electricity supply and the planned coal phase-out in power generation. What are the challenges for an “all electric world”? What are the effects of changes in taxes and levies? What would be the impact of an expansion of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme to other sectors? In addition to the economic framework, what are the technical and legal framework conditions and effects of sector coupling? What are potential alternatives? These topics will be discussed at the Twelfth Eberbacher Cloister Conversations, which will be organised by the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport and Housing (HMWEVW), the ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research and the University of Münster.
