The Rise of Emissions Trading in Asia: Established Principles - Novel Practices

Conference

The objective of the conference is to explore current global trends in the design as well as analysis of emissions trading schemes. The conference will bring together leading economic experts in the area of emissions trading from different parts of the world, where either a scheme is already implemented or in preparation. The ZEW convenes this conference together with the Australian National University and will be joined by participants from US (Denny Ellerman), China (Zhang Xiliang and colleagues), Australia (Regina Betz and Frank Jotzo), South Korea (Yong Gin Kim, Hojeong Park), and Europe (Christian Perthuis).

The experts will review existing schemes and illuminate the current state of research. Characteristics of the implemented schemes and the experiences made within these schemes will be presented from an applied economic perspective. However, the conference focuses on the emerging schemes in China and South Korea. The experts will introduce the schemes and will present results from ex-ante research. These emerging emissions trading schemes are policy experiments that offer ample opportunities for research on the optimal design of emission trading schemes.

The conference will help to strengthen international research cooperation and feed into the policymaking process. This event is part of the project "Sustainable Partners - Partners for Sustainability: Emerging Emission Trading Schemes in PRC" funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation.
