The Green Growth Dilemma

Final Conference of the PAKT Project "Economics of an Integrated and Long-Term Climate and Energy Policy"

The conference "The Green Growth Dilemma" is the final conference of the research project "Economics of an Integrated and Long-Term Climate and Energy Policy", funded by the German Joint Initiative for Research and Innovation ("Pakt für Forschung und Innovation" - PAKT). The project was led by ZEW. The conference is jointly organized by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) and the Potsdam Institute of Climate Impact Research (PIK). It takes place at the recently founded Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) in Berlin (Germany) on November 15-16, 2012.

The focus of the conference will be on the assessment of green growth strategies. The goal is to clarify the challenges of smart and sustainable growth as well as to provide solutions. There will be an introduction to the green growth debate, given by Ottmar Edenhofer (PIK & MCC), a summary of the project results will be given by Andreas Löschel (ZEW). Sjak Smulders (Tilburg University), Carolyn Fischer (Resources for the Future), and Robert Stavins (Harvard University) will be keynote speakers. Additionally, there will be a panel discussion whether green growth is an illusion or not. The project consortium consisting of ZEW, PIK, Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Resources for the Future (RFF), Tsinghua University, and University of Kiel will also present the main results based on three years of research and discuss them with the conference participants.
