The Energy Efficiency Gap: Reasons and Implications

Workshop

The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), the Harvard Environmental Economics Program (HEEP), and the Duke University Energy Initiative are jointly organizing a research workshop on "The Energy Efficiency Gap: Reasons and Implications", scheduled for March 12-13, 2014, in Mannheim, Germany. Since decades analysts, policymakers, and scientists are concerned about the existence, size, and reasons of the energy efficiency gap – the phenomenon that the actual observed energy use differs from the theoretical optimal energy use. This workshop brings together renowned economists in order to evaluate possible explanations for the energy efficiency gap, based on recent and ongoing research; identify gaps in the research; and explore implications for public policy.
