Is Productivity Growth Shared in a Globalized Economy

Research Seminars

The paper presented in this ZEW Research Seminar examines the evolution of the technological innovation landscape and the process of international technology diffusion, using patents, citations, R&D, and productivity data. Technology diffusion is important, because until recently the production of knowledge and technology has been concentrated mostly in a handful of large industrialized economies. The paper examines whether the knowledge flows from the technology frontier have become more globalized, and what impact they have had on innovation and productivity of other advanced and emerging economies. It also investigates the effect of trade competition and global market concentration on innovation and technology diffusion.
