Global Environmental Challenges - From International Negotiations to Local Implications

Conference

The conference addresses global environmental challenges with a special focus on climatic change. In particular, the featured analyses from leading researchers in the field shed light on potential policy options after the Paris Climate Agreement which opened the path for a successful provision of an international public good – the reduction of global warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.

Both politics and science need to come up with sound approaches to turn the "road out of Paris" into a success. Potential challenges can be found on two levels: First, on the international level, agreements have to be made and institutions have to be formed to coordinate and monitor the subsequent process. Second, on the national level, adequate measures have to be implemented to reach the agreed targets.

A sound solution should harmonize both levels taking into account all relevant interdependencies. This requires new ideas by the leading researchers in the field. The conference brings together some of the most influential scientists presenting their latest ideas on how to improve the way to deal with global public goods so that we expect the contributions to be of high relevance for both politics und science.
