Education and Equality of Opportunity

Workshop

The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) is pleased to announce the Workshop "Education and Equality of Opportunity" in Mannheim on October 21-23, 2012. Educational inequalities have attracted growing interest in research as well as in the political debate due to the increased relevance of cognitive and non-cognitive skills on the labour market. Educational and social policies with the goal to reduce educational inequality and to achieve a better educational performance over the life cycle for all are thus central issues in the ongoing political and scientific debate.
The aim of this conference is to give researchers in this area an opportunity to present their latest empirical results and to exchange ideas. Applications are welcome from PhD students and post-doc researchers providing experimental and other empirical causal evidence on reducing educational inequalities. We invite empirical contributions from education economics or psychology. Preference will be given to papers providing experimental or quasi-experimental evidence on ways to increase equality of opportunity in education.

Keynote Speakers

  • Colm Harmon (University of Sydney)
  • Kjell Salvanes (NHH Norwegian School of Economics)
