25 Years of Research and Policy Consultancy: ZEW Celebrates Its Anniversary

25 years ago, in 1991, the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) commenced its work in Mannheim. The renowned research institution, which moved into the characteristic atrium building in close proximity to the Mannheim Palace in 1996, was founded on the basis of an initiative of the state government of Baden-Wuerttemberg, then headed by Lothar Späth, the economy of Baden-Wuerttemberg and the University of Mannheim. The idea behind the foundation of ZEW was to create a new competence centre that specialises in both applied empirical economic research and policy consultancy, whilst committing to the principles of academic neutrality and independence. In its 25-year history, ZEW has established itself as one of the leading economic research institutes in Germany and Europe. The institute has distinguished itself particularly by working on internationally comparative studies in the context of Europe and by creating important scientific data bases. Since 2004, ZEW has been a member of the Leibniz Association.

On 8 December 2016, ZEW will hold a ceremony to mark its 25th anniversary and celebrate this occasion with an academic and cultural programme. The festivities shall provide an opportunity to discuss the current work and future development of ZEW.

Participation in the event is only possible on invitation. If you are interested in attending the event, please contact us at event@zew.de.
