Stefan Klonner is a Research Associate at ZEW as well as a professor of development economics at Heidelberg University. He works in close cooperation with the "Market Design" Research Group on the redesign of microcredit markets. Previously, he has held positions as a postdoctoral fellow and visiting lecturer at Yale University; assistant professor at Cornell University; and professor of international and development economics at Goethe University in Frankfurt.

His research focuses on microeconomic aspects of low-income economies, in particular on determinants and the measurement of poverty, as well as the analysis and design of credit markets. His regional specialisation is South India, where he has carried out several data collections and field studies.
