Dr. Patrick Schulte studied economics with a specialisation in econometrics at the Universities of Marburg, Cork (Ireland), and Heidelberg. He joined ZEW’s Research Department "Digital Economy" in 2011 and received his PhD in economics at Goethe University Frankfurt in 2016.

In his dissertation entitled "Empirical Essays on Technical Change, ICT and Energy Demand" he studied macroeconomic consequences of technical change for energy- and labour demand as well as the role of private information as a second currency in online markets. His general research interests are applied econometrics and the economics of digitisation. In particular, he currently deals with the consequences of the digitisation for productivity and innovation as well as with the functioning of online markets.
