Marianne Saam studied economics at the Universities of Frankfurt and Paris-Dauphine. From 2001 to 2005, she worked as a teaching and research assistant at Frankfurt University, where she defended her PhD thesis entitled "Essays on Growth, Distribution, and Factor Substitution" in 2006. During her doctoral studies, she spent several months as a visiting research associate at Louisiana State University. Since November 2005, she has been working at the Research Department "Information and Communication Technologies" at ZEW.

Her main fields of research are factor substitution at the macroeconomic level, growth effects of ICT and intangible investment, and the production of user-generated content. Marianne Saam participated in several European projects, she was i.a. work package lead in the project INDICSER funded by the 7th EU Framework Programme.
