Michael Hellwig studied economics at Heidelberg University and pursued his Master’s degree in economics and business at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He expanded his knowledge in practical competition and regulation issues at the Dutch regulatory authority and the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer. He is a PhD candidate at the Justus Liebig University Giessen.

From October 2015 to December 2017 Michael Hellwig worked as a researcher in ZEW’s Research Group “Competition and Regulation”. He joined the Research Department “Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics” in January 2018 and is part of the Junior Research Group “Competition and Regulation”. His research interests include the regulation of network industries and the interplay of law and economics, with a special focus on competition policy.
