Jan Kinne studied geography with minors in computer science and economics at Heidelberg University and Loughborough University, UK. His main areas of study were geoinformatics and spatial analysis (GIScience). He completed his Master’s degree in May 2016. In his Master’s thesis, which was awarded the Förderpreis Geoinformatik 2017 as best thesis, he analysed the geographic pattern of the German software industry on the basis of the geocoded Mannheim Enterprise Panel.

Jan Kinne has been a researcher in the ZEW Research Department “Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics” since June 2016. He is an external student in the Applied Geoinformatics PhD programme at the University of Salzburg. His research interests focus on innovation research using big spatial data and spatial data mining.
