The ZEW Forecast Survey

Assessment of Banks' Financial Market Forecasts

The ZEW Forecast Survey is a quarterly survey that is being conducted since early 2001. Currently the following 16 banks participate in the survey on a regular basis: Overview participating banks.

The survey refers to the six most important financial market values in Europe. In particular these are: the short and long-term interest rates in Europe, the Dow Jones Stoxx 50-Index, the German stock index DAX, the TecDAX as well as the US-Dollar/Euro exchange rate. The forecasts are given for the respective 3 and 6 months ahead.

The current forecasts are publicised along with the assessment of the forecast quality in the Börsenzeitung at the beginning of each quarter. A detailed account of the methodology may be found here.

The ZEW Forecast Survey regularly offers the public a representative overview of the financial market forecasts of banks operating in Germany as well as their forecast quality in the past periods.
