German companies participating in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) analyse the consequences of climate policy on their competitiveness in a variety of ways. When asked whether global climate policy - e. g. decisions adopted at UN climate negotiations - negatively impacted on their competitiveness, 39 per cent of the respondents gave a positive response. 53 per cent of companies expect European climate protection rules, such as the EU ETS, to have a negative impact on competitiveness. Climate policy at the national level, the turnaround in German Energy Policy (the so-called energy transition), for example, is perceived as being potentially damaging by 59 per cent of companies. This is one of the findings of the KfW/ZEW CO2 Barometer 2015, an annual survey conducted by KfW bank in cooperation with the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), since 2009. The survey analyses the impact of the EU ETS on the companies regulated.

Germany’s top office markets still register a slight upswing in 2012. For 2013, however, stagnation is expected. Vacancies, top rents and high yields will remain nearly constant. These are the findings of the fifth survey among real estate market experts, which is conducted on a six-month basis by the Society of Property Researchers (gif – Gesellschaft für Immobilienwirtschaftliche Forschung) in cooperation with the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim.

Innovation, skilled employees and customised products and services are the success factors of German ICT (Information and Communication Technology) companies for accessing foreign markets. These are the findings of a study conducted by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi). The study represents the preparatory work for the 6th National IT Summit on December 6, 2011, in Munich. It analyses the key intentions, success factors and problems regarding the internationalisation of German companies from the ICT sector. The study includes a representative survey of approx. 600 ICT businesses.

The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany has decreased by 6.9 points in November 2011. This is the ninth decline in a row. The indicator now stands at minus 55.2 points. This value is below the indicator’s historical average of 25.0 points. A lower value of the indicator was last seen in October 2008.

These are the core findings of a study analysing the development of the market for student housing in Baden-Württemberg. The research was conducted by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Mannheim in cooperation with the University of Mannheim on behalf of the L-Bank, State Bank for Baden-Württemberg.

The financial market experts that are asked about their economic expectations for the CEE region in a monthly survey conducted by the ZEW, the Centre for European Economic Research, Mannheim, supported by Erste Bank der oesterreichischen Sparkassen, Vienna, are increasingly pessimistic. The sentiment indicator has decreased in November and now stands at -17.7 points. The experts' assessment of the current economic situation for Central and Eastern Europe is also lower compared to the previous month's survey but is still predominantly positive. The survey participants attest the Austrian economy to be in a good state, too, but economic expectations have declined markedly.

The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim, in cooperation with Credit Suisse (CS), has for the first time carried out a financial market test, a survey among financial market experts, for Switzerland. The analysis shows that the economic forecasts of the participants appear very positive. The current economic situation is for the most part also considered good. The respondents expect an increase in the inflation rate as well as in short- and longer-term interest rates. The detailed results can be obtained from the "Switzerland Financial Market Report", which will be published on a monthly basis.

The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany has increased again in November after having consolidated in the previous month. The indicator now stands at +67.2 points compared with +60.3 points in October.

The bottoming-out of the persistent downward trend of firm foundations in Germany, since 1999 the case, seems to have been reached. The semi-annual examination of firm foundations in Germany by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim reveals that the number of firm foundations for the year 2002 has stayed the same in comparison to 2001.
