Melanie Arntz is a Researcher at the ZEW Research Department "Labour Markets, Human Resources and Social Policy" since October 2002 and was appointed its deputy head in 2009. She studied geography at the University of Bonn and at the University of Minnesota. Her focus was on economic geography, development studies and geographical labour market research. She intensified her knowledge of economics and her methodological skills by completing additional undergraduate courses in economics. Her research focuses on the dynamics of individual labour market careers and on the economic performance of regional labour markets. In 2007, she finished her doctoral thesis regarding "The Geographic Mobility of Heterogenous Labour in Germany" at TU Darmstadt. In addition, she joined the faculty of the University of Heidelberg in fall 2009 as an assistant professor for "Labour Markets".
