Innovation performance and enabling capabilities of ICT in Germany

The purpose of the project was to analyse the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) for Germany as a site of innovation. Therefore, the current state of research about the quantitative effects of ICT on innovation activity, productivity and competitiveness was presented.

The study highlights the central role of ICT for Germany as a site of innovation. It shows that the ICT-sector belongs to the most innovative sectors in Germany. As a general purpose technology, ICT additionally offers numerous stimuli for innovations in other sectors. The chances, which new innovation trends, such as cloud computing, more efficient internet connections and intelligent networks open for the development of new business models and services and for the solution of societal future tasks, are revealed.
