The Summer Workshop is targeted at PhD students and post-doctorates within three years after completion of their thesis.
The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) is pleased to announce its 10th Summer Workshop for Young Economists. The general topic of this workshop is "The Economics and Econometrics of Innovation". The workshop provides a forum for discussions between young talented researchers and distinguished experts in their field of research. The programme will consist of lectures by experienced researchers and presentations by young scholars. Extensive time will be provided for discussions among participants. The participants will be required to present a paper during the workshop. We invite submissions of theoretical and empirical papers from economics and management.
Papers could address topics as:
- Indicators & Measurement of Innovation
- Impacts of Innovation
- Role of Complementarities For Innovation
- Evaluation of Public Innovation Policy
- R&D Spillovers and Technology Transfer
- Competition and Innovation
- Sources of Innovation
- Intellectual Property Rights

Participants may apply to the ZEW for financial assistance for travel and accommodation.
Please note that we are also organising the 3rd ZEW Conference on the Economics of Innovation and Patenting which will take place right after the Summer Workshop on June 13-14, 2008. For further information on this conference please visit www.zew.de/innovation-patenting2008.
Deadline for submissions:
March 1, 2008.
After we received numerous applications we now start reviewing the submissions. Notification on acceptance will be given until end of March.
The Heinz-König-Young-Scholar-Award is given to a scholar under 35 years of age for the most outstanding paper presented at the ZEW Summer Workshop.
This year's award is funded by the MLP Aktiengesellschaft. It consists of a prize of 5,000 Euro and, in addition, a three months residential fellowship at the ZEW. The winner will be announced at the workshop. The prize is named after the ZEW's founding research director, the late Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Heinz König, who strongly shaped the ZEW's scientific achievements.
