Growth and Business Cycles

Research Area: Development of Analytic Tools and Methods

Contact: Dr. Atilim Seymen

  • Business cycles and growth in a unified theoretical and empirical framework
  • Macro-theoretical DSGE (dynamic stochastic general equilibrium) model
  • Macroeconometric multi-country model

Prerequisite for sound research on macroeconomic interrelationships in a national and international context is the deployment and ongoing development of macroeconometric models designed for each specific research question. The “Development of Analytic Tools and Methods” research area is dedicated to the ongoing development and maintenance of analytical tools and methods to evaluate short- and long-term effects of policy measures and to forecast medium-term macroeconomic developments. These models are used, for instance, for analysing the expansion of economic shocks with focus on the euro area countries. The latest global economic crisis is an illustration of how important the systematic analysis of global dependencies and interrelationships is.
