Research activities on innovation and business dynamics would be unthinkable without the corporate-level databases compiled by ZEW researchers over the past few years. For this reason, the continuous expansion and improvement of existing databases is an essential task. This work is carried out by the staff within the scope of project activities. Thanks to the Mannheim Enterprise Panel (MUP) and the Mannheim Innovation Panel (MIP), ZEW possesses an inventory of corporate-level survey data unique in Germany. The MUP is likely to be the most comprehensive database on business activities in Germany aside from government statistics, which are difficult to obtain for analyses at corporate level. In addition, a new enterprise panel – the KfW/ZEW Start-Up Panel – was established in 2007 in cooperation with the KfW Bankengruppe (KfW banking group) and Creditreform. The KfW/ZEW Start-Up Panel focuses on newly founded companies and the initial years of business. Due to its partnership with Bureau van Dijk, ZEW also has exclusive access to the world’s largest M&A database.
