The work conducted in this research area encompasses business start-ups and closures as well as growth of young firms. While economic conditions such as the funding of start-ups or the costs of market entry and exit are one topic of study, researchers in this area also examine issues of internal change and strategy selection in a company's development. Furthermore, the research area is concerned with the consequences of firm dynamics at market level and dynamics at individual economic sectors and branches.
