A Readjustment of Economic Policy – Professor Christoph M. Schmidt Presents German Council of Economic Experts’ Annual Report

Public Events

Professor Christoph M. Schmidt will be presenting the German Council of Economic Experts’ latest annual report at ZEW.

Professor Christoph M. Schmidt, chair of the German Council of Economic Experts and president of the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research, will be presenting the main points from the Council’s annual report 2017/2018 at 6 p.m. on 28 November 2017 as part of the lecture series “First-Hand Information on Economic Policy” at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Mannheim. In this year’s report, the Council calls for a readjustment of economic policy in Germany.

The German Council of Economic Experts recently presented its annual report to the German government. While in the report, entitled “Towards a Forward-Looking Economic Policy”, the council predict that the German economy and the Eurozone will continue to grow, they also issue a warning that the German economy could soon overheat.

In his presentation on the Council’s annual report 2017/2018 at ZEW, Christoph M. Schmidt will explain why Germany’s currently strong economic climate represents the ideal opportunity to start preparing the country for coming economic challenges. In light of the considerable surplus in the German federal budget, the Council see plenty of room for manoeuvre when it comes to the introduction of growth-friendly reforms. In his presentation, Schmidt will sketch out the macroeconomic outlook for Germany and present the Council’s policy recommendations for lawmakers. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session where audience members can ask Professor Schmidt questions.

Participation in the event is by invitation only. If you are interested in attending the event, please contact us at event@zew.de.
