The first part of the report focuses on the development of Baden-Württemberg since the financial crisis of 2007–2008. Thanks to its export- and technology-oriented economic structure, Baden-Württemberg was able to benefit from the continuing upswing that followed the crisis. Furthermore, the state succeeded in not only maintaining but also in advancing its already strong position among its national and international competitors. The second section of the report highlights external risks and contains qualitative estimates with regard to the effects of increasing protectionism in both US trade policy and the aftermath of Brexit. The third and final part of the report is dedicated to the effects of disruptive technological changes, focusing on key industries like the automotive and mechanical engineering sector.
