Professor Hannes Rehm

Professor Hannes Rehm, former member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), died at the age of 74. ZEW will remember the former chair of Nord/LB and spokesperson for SoFFin (Special Financial Market Stabilisation Fund) as a highly merited member of the Scientific Advisory Council.

Hannes Rehm was a member of the ZEW committee from May 2011 until his retirement at the beginning of 2016. “During his time at ZEW, we saw Hannes Rehm as an extremely competent and highly committed member of the Scientific Advisory Board. His high level of expertise coupled with his tremendous practical experience contributed to a large extent to ZEW’s successful development, particularly in the field of financial market research. We are greatly indebted to him,” says ZEW Director Thomas Kohl.

After his time at Nord/LB from 1993 to 2008, Hannes Rehm took over as spokesperson for the government fund SoFFin from 2009 to 2011, during the height of the financial crisis, which started in 2007. From 2008 to 2015 he was the president of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Hannover, as well as a member of the supervisory board of Salzgitter AG. As a doctor of economics, he was also working as an honorary professor at the Institute of Political Science of the University of Münster since 1994. His main research areas included municipal finance, public debt, the banking industry, and banking regulation policy.
