Delegation from Fudan University at ZEW

In mid-December 2017, a Chinese delegation of researchers from Fudan University, Shanghai, visited the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim. The delegation came to ZEW to discuss the China Economic Panel (CEP), a survey which has been conducted by ZEW and Fudan University on a monthly basis since May 2013.

During their visit, Professor Chen Yizhang, Professor Sun Lijian, Associate Professor Xu Xian and Assistant Policy Analyst Shen Chen met with Dr. Michael Schröder, project leader of the CEP survey at ZEW, and Dr. Oliver Lerbs, acting head of ZEW’s Research Department “International Finance and Financial Management”, to address the further development of the CEP, and in particular, to discuss plans to extend the survey to include the Eurozone.

According to the Chinese researchers, the CEP plays an important role for both financial markets and policy makers, and receives extensive media coverage in China. The visit did not only provide an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas on the CEP, but also allowed them to discuss possibilities of an even closer cooperation in the future.

The China Economic Panel is a monthly survey which reflects the expectations of international experts regarding the current situation as well as the short- and medium-term development of the Chinese economy and financial markets. The survey is conducted jointly by ZEW and Fudan University among international experts on China currently active in financial, research and economic departments of banks as well as insurance, investment and industrial companies. Their expectations for various indicators specific to China are aggregated and published on a monthly basis.
